This is the homepage of the OpenMolar Project. Open Source (GPLv3) Dental Practice Management Software.
The project started when a UK Dentist, Neil Wallace,
who was at the time the owner of
the Academy Dental Practice in Inverness, Scotland.
Neil found himself disastisfied with both the software and service provided by a well-established UK supplier
of such a system.
The project is divided into two distinct branches.
OpenMolar1 is the original project, written in python (version3), and qt5, using a mysql backend.
The application was constructed in haste, and the schema derived from the
badly designed schema provided by the forementioned commercial provider.
It is no longer utilised in practice, although development continues as a
OpenMolar2 was a complete re-write, including a new schema utilising the
more standards compliant Postgresql database.
It is effectively a dead project as it has not been ported to Python3 or
